Inside the Cabarete Creator Weekend: How Iguana Turned Adventure Into a Creator Marketing Experience

What happens when you take six emerging content creators, bring them to one of the Caribbean’s most active watersports destinations, and replace the traditional influencer itinerary with scuba diving, surfing, wing foiling, horseback riding and experiences designed to push people outside their comfort zones?
That was the idea behind the Cabarete Creator Weekend, a five-day international creator experience produced by Iguana Growth Studios.
From July 17–21, 2026, Iguana brought together six emerging creators with audiences ranging from approximately 50,000 to 200,000 followers for an adventure-first creator event on the north coast of the Dominican Republic.
But this wasn’t designed to be another luxury influencer trip.
The objective was to explore a different model for experiential creator marketing: put creators into experiences worth talking about, give participating brands and local partners authentic roles within those experiences, and build an environment where content happens because something interesting is actually happening.
Across five days, creators went scuba diving, learned to wing foil, surfed, rode horses along the Dominican coast, experienced local hospitality and shared a private oceanfront villa.
Iguana managed the event concept, creator experience, partner integrations, event design, production and content deliverables, creating one connected activation involving hospitality, water-sports, adventure and consumer-brand partners.
The result was an event that generated content, creator testimonials and continued value for participating partners after everyone went home.
What Is the Cabarete Creator Weekend?
The Cabarete Creator Weekend was an international experiential creator event designed and produced by Iguana Growth Studios.
Rather than building the weekend around a single sponsored post or one brand's product, Iguana created an environment in which multiple complementary partners could become part of a larger adventure.
Six emerging creators were invited to Cabarete for five days of experiences across the Dominican Republic's north coast.
And "emerging" was intentional.
A creator doesn't necessarily need millions of followers to influence an audience or tell a compelling story. Creators in the 50,000–200,000 follower range can have established communities while still being in a stage of their careers where new experiences, challenges and collaborations become meaningful pieces of their content.
The Cabarete Creator Weekend was designed around that idea.
Instead of asking creators to arrive with a list of scripted talking points, Iguana gave them something to experience.
An Adventure-First Alternative to the Traditional Influencer Brand Trip
Creator trips have become a familiar part of influencer marketing.
A brand flies creators to a destination, provides accommodations, organizes meals, places products throughout the itinerary and hopes that the resulting content reaches the right audience.
There is nothing inherently wrong with that model.
But for an adventure brand, there is an opportunity to go considerably further.
Instead of making the destination the experience, the experience itself can become the campaign.
That's what Iguana set out to do in Cabarete.
The Dominican Republic provided the setting, but the weekend wasn't primarily built as a destination-promotion trip. It was designed around athletic, adventurous and participatory experiences.
Creators weren't simply observing Cabarete.
They were getting in the water.
One day might require learning how to control a wing and balance on a foil. Another meant putting on scuba equipment and heading beneath the surface. Another brought everyone onto surfboards. Even downtime at the villa became an opportunity for creators to interact, collaborate and document what was happening around them.
For adventure brands, this changes the raw material available for content.
A traditional product placement gives a creator a product to show.
An experience gives a creator a story to tell.

Why Experiences Create Better Raw Material for Creator Content
That naturally creates hooks for YouTube videos, short-form content, Instagram Stories, behind-the-scenes footage and photography.
Our experience with Liquid Blue Cabarete was a great example.
Liquid Blue is a Cabarete-based watersports school specializing in activities including wing foiling, kitesurfing, e-foiling and surfing. The company describes its wing-foiling instruction as a progression from understanding wing control and balance to eventually finding lift on the foil.
That progression made the partnership naturally compatible with creator storytelling.
The creators weren't being asked to stand beside a wing foil and tell their audiences that wing foiling was fun.
They actually had to learn to wing foil.
Five Days of Adventure on the North Coast of the Dominican Republic
Starting the Weekend in Puerto Plata
Before the watersports and challenges began, the group started the weekend with a beach party hosted by Jean-François at Le Petit François in Puerto Plata.
It provided an introduction to the weekend before the creators moved deeper into the adventure itinerary.
And that social element mattered.
Creator events aren't valuable only because of what happens between a brand and an individual creator. Bringing creators together can create relationships between the creators themselves.
They exchange ideas. They film each other. They appear in each other's content. They experience something together.
By the time everyone started tackling the more athletic parts of the itinerary, they weren't simply six unrelated people arriving independently for sponsored activities.
They were experiencing the weekend together.
Learning to Wing Foil With Liquid Blue Cabarete
Cabarete has built an international reputation around wind and watersports, making it a natural setting for one of the weekend's biggest challenges: wing foiling.
The creators partnered with Liquid Blue Cabarete for the experience.
Liquid Blue operates in Cabarete and teaches wing foiling alongside surfing, kitesurfing and e-foiling. Its wing-foiling program emphasizes structured progression, including land instruction, safety, wing control, water practice and eventually riding more independently.
For the Cabarete Creator Weekend, the appeal went beyond simply trying an unusual watersport.
Wing foiling requires participation.
It can be difficult.
It looks incredible when someone gets it right.
And the process of learning it is often just as entertaining as the successful ride.
Those characteristics make an activity like wing foiling particularly interesting for an experiential creator campaign. The partner doesn't have to interrupt the story to become part of the content.
The partner makes the story possible.
Going Underwater With Dive Cabarete
The weekend also moved from above the water to underneath it.
Iguana partnered with Dive Cabarete to bring the creators scuba diving in the waters of Sosúa Bay.
Dive Cabarete specializes in scuba and snorkeling experiences on the Dominican Republic's north coast and operates with an emphasis on smaller groups and personalized instruction.
For some participants, scuba wasn't simply another activity to check off an itinerary.
It represented another opportunity to try something unfamiliar and capture the process around it, from gearing up and traveling by boat to entering the water and experiencing the underwater environment.
Again, the activity itself became the content engine.
Instead of attempting to manufacture excitement around a campaign, Iguana partnered with an operator whose actual experience provided it.
Surfing in Cabarete
Surfing added another athletic challenge to the weekend.
Creators took to the water with Cabarete Surf Company, continuing an itinerary deliberately built around movement rather than passive sightseeing.
Surfing also demonstrates something important about adventure-focused creator campaigns.
Not everyone needs to be an expert.
In fact, sometimes it is more interesting when they aren't.
For an audience, watching someone genuinely learn, struggle and improve can be more relatable than watching an athlete execute something perfectly.
The creator becomes the audience's proxy for the experience.
Could I do that?
What would my first attempt look like?
Is it as difficult as it seems?
Those questions make experiential content useful not only for awareness but also for helping potential customers imagine themselves participating.
Inside Villa Shangri-La at Sea Horse Ranch
An event this active still needed a home base.
For the Cabarete Creator Weekend, that home was Villa Shangri-La at Sea Horse Ranch.
And the property became much more than somewhere for the creators to sleep.
Villa Shangri-La is an oceanfront five-bedroom villa within Sea Horse Ranch near Cabarete. The property sits on nearly half an acre overlooking the Atlantic and includes extensive outdoor space, a private swimming pool and covered terrace. Sea Horse Ranch lists the property with two king beds and nine queen beds and says it can accommodate up to 12 additional guests through its guest-suite configuration.
That made the villa particularly suited to the communal nature of a creator event.
Over the five days, the creators experienced daily housekeeping, private chef service, ocean views and multiple opportunities to relax together between activities.
Sea Horse Ranch also became part of the actual adventure programming.
The group experienced an equestrian show and a private horseback riding excursion that brought another dimension to a weekend otherwise heavily centered around the ocean.
That is exactly what made Sea Horse Ranch valuable to the activation.
The accommodation itself became part of the experience.
Instead of creators disappearing into separate hotel rooms after each activity, Villa Shangri-La provided a shared environment where conversations, meals, downtime and spontaneous content could continue.
For creator-event production, that distinction can be significant.
The best creator trips don't necessarily stop when the scheduled activation ends for the day.
Sometimes the most authentic moments happen afterward.

The Difference Between Sponsoring Content and Becoming Part of the Content
One of the biggest lessons from Cabarete was simple:
The strongest integrations didn't need to fight for attention because they were necessary to the experience.
If a creator is learning to wing foil, the instructor, equipment and watersports center naturally belong in the story.
If creators are scuba diving, the dive operator isn't an interruption.
If everyone wakes up together in an oceanfront villa, cooks, eats, films, swims and talks there, the property isn't merely a logo at the end of a Reel.
It's part of what happened.
That creates an interesting opportunity for adventure companies.
Rather than asking:
"How do we get creators to promote our brand?"
Brands can ask:
"What could creators experience with our brand that their audiences would actually want to watch?"
That is a very different creative brief.
